Introduction

Christians Against Poverty (CAP) is a UK charity determined to reduce UK poverty, delivering debt counselling, money management, job clubs and support for people living on low incomes, in partnership with local churches across the country.

With a national presence and a commitment to specialised debt counselling, CAP has been instrumental in supporting people facing financial hardship, including those who need bankruptcy or insolvency help.

The challenge: maintaining and updating legacy systems

As CAP embraced new technologies, it hit a significant hurdle: maintaining and upgrading its legacy systems. These systems are critical to delivering debt advice and other vital services through the UK Church, so keeping them running smoothly is central to CAP's mission.

CAP has a talented in-house development team, but recognised the need to add external expertise. It wanted a cost-effective solution that would integrate with the existing team and focus on the upkeep and improvement of its legacy systems.

Accelerayt's solution

Accelerayt shared CAP's commitment to excellence and was closely aligned with its beliefs and values. Our approach had three parts:

  1. Targeted talent acquisition. We screened and selected developers with the skills and experience to navigate CAP's complex legacy estate, provided a range of CVs and worked closely with CAP through the interviews to find the right fit.
  2. Seamless integration. Our developers joined CAP's existing development teams and, thanks to our onboarding process, were up and running within a few weeks.
  3. Adaptability and flexibility. We worked hand in hand with CAP to understand its specific needs and adapted our processes to get the best results.

Results: swift integration and real contributions

The impact was clear from the outset. Within five months, our developers had:

  • quickly grasped the complexities of CAP's legacy estate
  • built strong relationships with CAP's in-house team
  • shown the confidence to take on responsibility and deliver

They worked as part of CAP's team, writing code, deploying changes and carrying out code reviews. Their work was technically sound and fitted CAP's ways of working and culture.

"We are really enjoying working with Accelerayt and having them as part of our wider team. The developers we have working with us have been quick to understand our ways of working and the technologies that we use. They've added value quickly and working with the wider Accelerayt team has been great. Everyone has been open to feedback and improving our ways of working together."
